New York Giants QB Eli Manning

Eli Manning Trying To Be Top Paid Football Player

Manning Football Salary

With the start of the 2015 football season, this means that Eli Manning, New York Giants star quarterback, is on his last contracted year and is already looking to get a new contract in the works. However, he is actually trying to be the highest paid player in the NFL.

Currently, the highest paid QB is Aaron Rodgers, earning $22 million each year; Manning is currently at $17 million. It would be a huge jump to try and surpass Rodgers, and on top of it all, the Giants don’t seem to be close to what he is asking for.

The Top 5 contracts can shine some more light on how far fetched Manning request is:

VALUE REMAINING GUARANTEED SUM YEARLY AVERAGE
Cam Newton: $118.5M Philip Rivers: $65M Aaron Rodgers: $22M
Jay Cutler: $109.2M Russell Wilson: $61.5M Russell Wilson: $21.9M
Colin Kaepernick: $106M Colin Kaepernick: $61M Ben Roethlisberger: $21.85M
Ben Roethlisberger: $99M Cam Newton: $60M Philip Rivers: $20.82M
Philip Rivers: $99M Tony Romo: $55M Cam Newton: $20.76M

Calculating a quarterback’s worth is hard, and even harder than before, with the possibility of Manning getting around $25 million yearly salary if the Giants were to use the exclusive franchise tag on him for next season.

Eli Manning has already become a hero for the Giants team and fans, so there is a slight possibility that he could end up getting that high contract to become the most paid QB in football.

2015 NFL Preseason HoF game

Hall Of Fame Football Game And Induction A Success

Football Preseason

Great news everyone! The football season has officially started once again, and it did so in a good way. The Hall of Fame weekend brought in an emotional day on Saturday as they inducted a few great NFL players and contributors, and on Sunday, we finally got to see some action.

On Saturday, eight NFL greats were inducted into the Hall of Fame, giving them a place in history: linebacker Junior Seau, defensive end Charles Haley, receiver Tim Brown, running back Jerome Bettis, guard Will Shields, center Mick Tingelhoff, and general managers Bill Polian and Ron Wolf.

After the heartfelt ceremony, the first game of the season was played between the Vikings and Steelers, where it was an impressive display of defense on both teams, but the Vikings ultimately were able to squeek by with two touchdowns. This left the final score 14-3, as the coaches look forward to plugging any gaps they may have.

Even though the preseason has started, training camps will continue as usual, as the players and teams continue to get ready for the regular football season that starts in September. For now, enjoy the fact that the season has finally begun!

Deflated Ball

Football Inflation Rule May Be A Problem

Football Deflategate Rule

The 2015 NFL season is set to start and with it are a bunch of new rules that are set in place to help the League avoid any more controversies. However, the football inflation rule will be a lot more difficult to manage than most would think, even the officials are seeing the impossibility of the task.

According to the new rule, officials will:

  • Number each ball to easily recognize and analyze.
  • Randomly check the balls for correct air pressure.
  • Constanly monitor and evaluate each ball before, during, and after each game.

As you can imagine, this may be more problematic than helpful. Central Region supervisor of officials Gary Slaughter is one that has already voiced that it is a very daunting task, as they have monitored the pressure in balls in the past, so they know what to expect.

The main reason this will be hard is that each ball is hand made, and can have issues. Balls can easily have a slow leak, or can even lose pressure depending on where the game is being played, altitude, etc. All of these issues make it hard to distinguish between tampering and normal deflation.

Stopping the game each time an official has to check a ball will get ridiculous. Football has always had its issues, but creating more and more rules is not a real answer, as it will only complicate things. Hopefully, it won’t get in the way.

Oakland Raiders Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans

Predicting The Football Underdogs 2015 Records

Football underdog teams

Just a few more weeks until football season starts up again and the NFL team’s are hard at work with their training camps. Some team’s are trying to forget their past seasons record, as it may be embarrassing to know that they had a losing streak. However, the good thing about a new season is that records start at 0-0, no matter their past performance.

Of course, teams will always remember and want to do better, especially if they have less than desirable winning records. This is why were looking at three teams, who did extremely bad in 2014, and will start out the 2015 season as underdogs. Taking into account coaching, rookies and free agents, and quarterback play, the predicted records for the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are:

Team 2014 Record Predicted 2015 Record
Raiders 3-13 8-8
Titans 2-14 7-9
Buccaneers 2-14 7-9

It doesn’t look like the predictions give them good chances of getting a winning record, but they should be able to improve from last season. Any rookies or free agents that they receive may give them a boost, but the change in coaching, as well as lack of experience could prove to have a hard season. Once the players get seasoned, they could be a lot better.

These football predictions are on the safe side, although it could go either way, as you should all know how unpredictable any NFL game can be. It would be a good idea to start looking at the underdogs, as there is a lot of money to be made off of them. For expanded explanations of each of these predictions, you can check them out courtesy of Bleacher Report.

Safety Ed Reed

Football Players Retiring In 2015

Football players retiring

With any job there comes a time when their employees, or in this case football players, retire. The NFL has a generally low age for retiring players, unless of course you are a husky looking quarterback that always comes back. This is why some fans are sad to see some of their favorite players walk off the field for good.

Here are ten players that are retiring this year:

Player POS Team Notable Stats
Ed Reed S Ravens 643 Tackles

64 Interceptions

Troy Polamalu S Steelers 770 Tackles

32 Interceptions

Kamerion Wimbley OLB Titans 442 Tackles

53.5 Sacks

Patrick Willis ILB 49ers 950 Tackles

20.5 Sacks

Justin Smith DE 49ers 880 Tackles

87 Sacks

Ryan Clark FS Steelers/Redskins 644 Tackles

16 Interceptions

Maurice Jones-Drew RB Jaguars/Raiders 8,167 Yards

68 Touchdowns

Nick Hardwick C Chargers 136 Games Played
Michael Roos T Titans 148 Games Played
John Carlson TE Vikings/Cardinals 2,256 Yards

15 Touchdowns

It will be sad to see these, and many other of the players retiring this year, go. Many were quite amazing at their position, which is what made watching the football games so much better. Watching that great tackle or sack, or even those one-handed catches. Let’s hope the newer generation players can bring the same level of tenacity.

JaJuan Dawson ex-NFL receiver

Sad Day In Football As JaJuan Dawson Body Is Recovered From Lake

Football tragedy

It is a tragic day as a fellow football player has lost his life earlier than anyone would have expected. Ex-NFL receiver JaJuan Dawson’s body was found late last night, around 11:35 pm, in Lake Levon in Texas. Dawson was reported missing on Sunday when he fell into a lake.

He was on the lake with a few of his family members as they enjoyed the day, but he fell into the lake and never resurfaced; he was not wearing a life jacket and no one knows if he knew how to swim. As most of you may be thinking, this incident did not involve alcohol, so we can put that to rest.

Dawson, who was picked in the third round of the 2000 Draft by the Cleveland Browns, and then went on to play for the Houston Texans in 2002, which would mark his last year of playing professional football. His career was short, but sweet, and never deserved to leave this earth so early.

We wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the grieving family.

Ohio State ranked #1 by NFL.com

NFL.com Ranks The 15 Best College Football Teams

College Football rankings

Each year, right before the NCAA College football season starts, the professional side of the sport likes to rank the teams based on their own criteria, which is why NFL.com has released the Top 15 College teams, which don’t really come as much of a surprise based on their performances last year.

The Top 15 ranked college teams are:

RANK TEAM OUTSTANDING REASON
1 Ohio State Tons of highly talented players
2 TCU Dynamic QB and talented offense
3 Michigan State Tough defense and Star QB
4 Alabama Deep and talented defense
5 Baylor Highly athletic team
6 Oregon Great RB and coach
7 Florida State Outstanding recruiting
8 USC Excellent offensive line
9 Auburn Great QB and RB combo
10 Ole Miss Excellent defense
11 Clemson Excellent QB and Dynamic WR’s
12 Notre Dame Good QB and offensive line
13 Georgia Amazing Linebackers and RB
14 Arizona Good sync with no-huddle offense
15 UCLA Veteran offensive line and RB

There are many other great teams that would have fit the criteria to be on this list, but these 15 teams simply outmatched them in their own respective areas, whether their strong offense is predicted to crush the opposition, or have their outstanding defense stop enough plays to carry the team.

Either way, look forward to seeing these teams live up to the hype on this list or see which teams will get beat out by those that just barely didn’t make it on. For more details on why NFL.com ranked these teams this way, read about it here.

College football player prospects

NFL Supplemental Draft With 7 College Football Prospects

Football supplemental draft

For those NFL teams and fans that still want or need good players on their roster, they will have a chance to buff up their bench with the football supplemental draft that will be taking place on Thursday, July 9th. Taking place at 10:00 a.m. PT, the franchises will have the chance to choose from seven different college players, ready to take the step into professional sports.

Player POS College
Isaiah Battle T Clemson
Darrius Caldwell DE West Georgia
Eric Eiland DE Houston
Sean McQuillan TE Connecticut
Kevin Short DB Fort Scott CC
Dalvon Stuckey DT West Georgia
Adrian Wilkins WR North Carolina Central

All of these players have good chances of getting picked up by a team, as they all posses great qualities that many would need and want. There are three procedures when it comes to this draft:

  • The Draft will keep going until all seven players have been picked or seven rounds have been completed. Rounds last 10 minutes.
  • If a team picks a player, that same team will renounce that same selection during the same round at the 2016 Draft.
  • Priority will be established by a lottery, and teams will be notified prior to 1:00 p.m.

A player hos not been drafted since 2012, so hopefully they get picked.

Patriots QB Tom Brady

DeflateGate: Tom Brady Present His Suspension Case To Football Commissioner Goodell

Football player Tom Brady

Tom Brady, star quarterback for the New England Patriots, met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during a 10 hour meeting in order to appeal his 4-game suspension due to his part he played in “Deflategate”. He arrived early on Tuesday morning with his attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, famous lawyer that takes on the most iconic football cases.

It seems that Brady was able to convey a strong case to appeal his suspension, but Goodell has not made a decision yet, and there is no set time limit to receive one. Training camps will start within a few weeks, so we believe that Brady will get an answer by then.

We don’t know what decision Goodell could make, as he could decide to leave the suspension as it is, reduce it, or even clear him completely. As a football fan, I hope this leaves a stern message to all players and coaches that they shouldn’t cheat to win.

Yahoo Beat Out Twitter For The Rights To Stream Bills-Jaguars Football Game

Yahoo steam football game

Yahoo was recently given the rights to live stream the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars that is to take place on October 25 that is to take place in London. However, what most people did not know what that another large corporation tried to get those rights as well. Twitter, with its billions of users and followers, wanted to be able to take part in such a historic event.

The NFL had to choose between two highly influential companies, with billions of users that could be a part of the League and the sport itself. Twitter was offering to split the revenue of the stream, non-exclusive rights to stream, along with a certain upfront money. Yahoo, who was picked, simply offered $20 million for the rights to stream the game.

Money won in the end, as the NFL decided to go with Yahoo and their billion user base. It is still great for all sports fans around the world, as they will now be able to watch a live stream of the game over the internet for the first time in history. Let’s hope this catches on and more companies and people are given the rights to stream football games live, without fear of reprisals.

In an effort for most companies to cut the cord of cable, this is a great step forward for people that simply want to enjoy the sport they love without having to pay for additional packages they don’t need or want. For more details read here.
