With any job there comes a time when their employees, or in this case football players, retire. The NFL has a generally low age for retiring players, unless of course you are a husky looking quarterback that always comes back. This is why some fans are sad to see some of their favorite players walk off the field for good.

Here are ten players that are retiring this year:

Player POS Team Notable Stats
Ed Reed S Ravens 643 Tackles

64 Interceptions

Troy Polamalu S Steelers 770 Tackles

32 Interceptions

Kamerion Wimbley OLB Titans 442 Tackles

53.5 Sacks

Patrick Willis ILB 49ers 950 Tackles

20.5 Sacks

Justin Smith DE 49ers 880 Tackles

87 Sacks

Ryan Clark FS Steelers/Redskins 644 Tackles

16 Interceptions

Maurice Jones-Drew RB Jaguars/Raiders 8,167 Yards

68 Touchdowns

Nick Hardwick C Chargers 136 Games Played
Michael Roos T Titans 148 Games Played
John Carlson TE Vikings/Cardinals 2,256 Yards

15 Touchdowns

It will be sad to see these, and many other of the players retiring this year, go. Many were quite amazing at their position, which is what made watching the football games so much better. Watching that great tackle or sack, or even those one-handed catches. Let’s hope the newer generation players can bring the same level of tenacity.
