Giving the football players two weeks to prepare for the Super Bowl is a great idea, and what makes it even better is that they have a great match-up the week before just for fun with the Pro Bowl. Every year the Pro Bowl brings together players from different teams and places them on the same team, which is a great way to get some of the best players to show their talent. It is as if a fantasy league team had come to life. This year, Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin are the two facing each other, as the public votes for which players get drafted to each team.

Here are a few of the players that got drafted to each team:

Team Irvin Team Rice
Player POS Player POS
Russell Wilson QB Derek Carr QB
Jameis Winston QB Eli Manning QB
Teddy Bridgewater QB Tyrod Taylor QB
Allen Robinson WR Amari Cooper WR
Julio Jones WR Odell Beckham Jr. WR
DeAndre Hopkins WR Jarvis Landry WR
A.J. Green WR T.Y. Hilton WR
Richard Sherman CB Marcus Peters CB
Desmond Trufant CB Vontae Davis CB
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Brent Grimes CB
Adam Jones CB Jason Verrett CB

Seeing as how the Pro Bowl is mostly an offensive-type game, the players that stand out the most are the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and the corner backs. The game will take place at the Aloha Stadium on Honolulu Hawaii and kick-off will be at 2 p.m. local time. It will be a fun game to watch, so fans shouldn’t take it too seriously, seeing as sportsbooks are not even taking bets on the match. All of this takes place a week before the Super Bowl 50, where the Carolina Panthers face the Denver Broncos.

Football Fumble Stats So Far This NFL Season https://football.us/nfl/football-fumble-stats-so-far-this-nfl-season/ https://football.us/nfl/football-fumble-stats-so-far-this-nfl-season/#respond Wed, 28 Oct 2015 19:22:35 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=822 Football player fumble stats

The most important aspect that any football player learns is to always protect the ball when you are carrying it or catching it. There are some NFL players that have taken that to heart, while others still need to practice. A fumble is the worst thing that can happen to a team, seeing as how it gives their opponents the chance to gain possession and even score, and the best case scenario is that they recover the ball, but only lose a few yards.

Based on this, here are some of the skill-position fumble stats showing who is good and who needs to get glue on their hands.

Most Fumbles By Skill Player
Player Team Fumbles Touches
Melvin Gordon Chargers 4 98
Brandon Marshall Jets 3 41
Ameer Abdullah Lions 3 75
Adrian Peterson Vikings 3 133
Least Fumbles By Skill Player
Player Team Fumbles Touches
T.J. Yeldon Jaguars 0 117
Marshawn Lynch Seahawks 0 92
Ronnie Hillman Broncos 0 72
Thomas Rawls Seahawks 0 68
Shane Vereen Giants 0 55

Even though T.J. Yeldon leads with 0 fumbles and 117 touches, he has a drop percent of 13% (3 out of 23). So, we can tell that some of these running backs are great when they are given the ball, as they have a good grip on it, but when the ball is tossed to them, they may not have the best hands for it. On the other hand, it is important to know which of the quarterbacks are better or worse when it comes to holding onto the ball.

Most Fumbles By  Quarterback
Player Team Fumbles Snaps
Josh McCown Browns 6 366
Marcus Mariota Titans 5 305
Colin Kaepernick 49ers 4 412
Least Fumbles By Quarterback
Player Team Fumbles Snaps
Brandon Weeden Cowboys 0 195
Peyton Manning Broncos 0 390
Ryan Mallett Texans 0 250
Aaron Rodgers Packers 1 361
Cam Newton Panthers 1 389
Matthew Stafford Lions 1 412

This not only reflects poorly on the quarterback, but the offensive line that is there to protect the quarterback as well. We can see that Peyton Manning and the Broncos have amazing pocket protection, which is probably what has let them go undefeated so far this season. Giving a great quarterback the time and space needed to make a pass is a dangerous thing in football.

Football Injuries Going Into NFL Week 4 https://football.us/football-news/football-injuries-going-into-nfl-week-4/ https://football.us/football-news/football-injuries-going-into-nfl-week-4/#respond Wed, 30 Sep 2015 20:32:42 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=746 Football injuries NFL Week 3

It is always a tragedy when one of the top football players of any NFL team gets injured, as it hurts the chances of team winning, but also due to the fact that fans enjoy watching these players perform their magic on the field. During last week’s games there were a couple of hard hitting injuries that have some teams scrambling to fill the hole left behind in hopes that during Week 4 they will be able to play at their best. Here are some of the injured players that may miss out on playing this week.

Player POS Team Injury
Marshawn Lynch RB Seahawks Hamstring
LeSean McCoy RB Bills Hamstring
Sammy Watkins WR Bills Calf Strain
John Miller G Bills Groin
Devante Adams WR Packers Ankle
Andrew Quarless TE Packers Knee
Datone Jones DL Packers Concussion
Jake Ryan LB Packers Hamstring
Joe Haden CB Browns Rib Contusion
Kiko Alonso LB Eagles Torn ACL
Andrew Gardner OL Eagles Foot
Cody Parkey Kicker Eagles Groin
Luke Kuechly LB Panthers Concussion
Charles Johnson DE Panthers Hamstring
Vernon Davis TE 49ers Knee
NaVorro Bowman LB 49ers Knee
Eric Reid FS 49ers Stitches to Face
Knile Davis RB Chiefs Ankle
Phillip Gaines CB Chiefs Knee
Players That Could Return After Positive Health Check-Ups
Victor Cruz WR Giants Calf
DeMarco Murray RB Eagles Hamstring
Xavier Rhodes CB Vikings Concussion
Josh McCown QB Browns Right Hand
Brandon Brooks G Texans Ankle

For those Seattle Seahawks fans it must be hard to lose Beast Mode right after shutting down the Chicago Bears 26-0, but he did leave during the game with an apparent hamstring injury. There is still no news on the severity, although initial rumors state it is minor, but Coach Pete Carroll stated that Lynch has had an MRI and will be re-evaluated later on in the week.

There are several players that have simply been placed on the Injured Reserve list, like Eagles Andrew Gardner and kicker Cody Parkey. They are actively looking for new kickers as they brought some in for workouts on Monday. Some of the other players that have minor injuries could get a positive health check later on this week and could actually play in NFL Week 4 football games.

NFL Team Cuts To Fit 53 Football Player Roster https://football.us/football-news/nfl-team-cuts-to-fit-53-football-player-roster/ https://football.us/football-news/nfl-team-cuts-to-fit-53-football-player-roster/#respond Mon, 07 Sep 2015 18:02:39 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=674 Football player roster cuts

On Saturday, the deadline for each NFL team to reach their 53-man roster was met, although there were many football fans surprised by some of the cuts. It is a hard job for a coach to do, as they look for only the best players possible to fill their roster in preparation for the start of the 2015 season. For those that want to check out the entire list of players that were cut, you can check it out here.

The teams released over 700 players on Friday and Saturday, and as we mentioned before, more than a few of the cuts came a surprise. Here are just a few of the players that we believed would make the cut and remain on their team:

Player POS Team Reason For Cut
Tim Tebow QB Eagles Not good enough for third string
Darnell Dockett DE 49ers Injury concerns and better players
James Jones WR Giants Younger players
Louis Nix III DT Texans Injuries
Da’Quan Bowers DE Buccaneers Short of potential
Devon Still DT Bengals Family issues

Tim Tebow was actually looking good during the preseason, which is why it surprises us that the Eagles decided to let him go. However, Ealges coach Chip Kelly mentioned that he just was not good enough to be third-string QB. Another interesting cut was of James Jones, who has played very well since he was drafted by the Packers in 2007, racking up 4,971 yards and 43 touchdowns. The good news, however, is that the Green Bay Packers have just picked Jones up, as they lost Jordy Nelson to an injury, so he will be on a good team this season.

Other players that had news worthy exits from their teams include: Robert Turbin (Seahawks), Matt Cassel (Bills), IK Enemkpali (Bills), as well as the mutual release of Reggie Wayne from the Patriots. There are many other players that, although released, have good chances of getting picked up by other NFL teams for the 53 player roster, or even for the football practice squad.

Brady And NFL Still No Settlement On Football Suspension https://football.us/nfl/brady-and-nfl-still-no-settlement-on-football-suspension/ https://football.us/nfl/brady-and-nfl-still-no-settlement-on-football-suspension/#respond Mon, 31 Aug 2015 18:11:12 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=665 Tom Brady Football Suspension

For those football fans, especially those rooting for the New England Patriots, that were waiting to finally get an answer on whether quarterback Tom Brady will get the full, reduced, or no suspensions for his dealings in Defaltegate. Although the evidence hasn’t really proven that Brady was ever directly or indirectly involved in the incident during the game against the Colts last season, the NFL still says he was involved due to the destruction of a cell phone. This phone allegedly had video of the incident, which is why Brady is on trial at the moment and being given the 4-game suspension.

There was no settlement reached when the NFL and the lawyers were in talks on Monday at the Federal court house. Judge Richard Berman, the judge that has been in charge of the case for several weeks already, announced early in the morning that the talks were over. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Tom Brady were both in attendance for Monday’s session, where Judge Berman mentioned that “some cases are simply not able to be settled.”

As a decision was not met on Monday, we should expect some kind of resolution and final decision by the end of the week. This has to be resolved before the start of the 2015 Regular Season, which actually begins on September 10. The biggest issue is that the Patriots are playing the first game of the regular season against a tough opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers. So, you can imagine that the Patriots would like to have an answer before then to see how they can work out their strategy.

Whether Brady is given the full 4-game suspension, or it is reduced to 2-games, the Patriots will still miss out on having their star QB on the field. On the off-chance that the Judge determines that the NFL did not have enough evidence to suspend Brady, it will be a completely different story, and may even give them a huge advantage over other teams who do have suspended or injured players. In this case, they would be able to overcome the Steelers, as they have lost three key players due to injury and a suspension.

Let’s wait until Judge Richard Berman finally reaches a decision to start throwing our arms up in displeasure. Football season is always full of excitement, whether it is on the field or in the court room. Can’t wait to have the points, touchdowns, and victories actually mean something.

NFL Football Injuries Of Preseason Week 2 https://football.us/football/nfl-football-injuries-of-preseason-week-2/ https://football.us/football/nfl-football-injuries-of-preseason-week-2/#comments Mon, 24 Aug 2015 19:16:37 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=585 Football injuries

Football is a very competitive and physical sport, and there is always a chance that a player will get injured while playing on the field; or even off the field as some have occured. This is common knowledge in the NFL, but what gets everyone angry is that their favorite teams lose good players during the preseason, where the games don’t really matter.

During Week 2 of the preseason there have been several injuries that could greatly affect how a team performs once the regular season starts. For instance, the Pittsburgh Steelers just lost their great Center, Maurkice Pouncey with a broken ankle. He may not be the most important player on the field, but his presence was crucial to the offense.

Pouncey is not the only that suffered this week, take a look at some other injuries that happened during the weekend games:

PLAYER TEAM INJURY
Jordy Nelson Packers Possible torn ACL
T.J. Lang Packers Possible concussion
Scott Tolzien Packers Possible concussion
Maurkice Pouncey Steelers Broken Left Ankle
Stephon Tuitt Steelers Left ankle injury
Robert Griffin III Washington Possible concussion and shoulder injury
Johnny Manziel Browns Possible elbow injury
Brandon Weeden Cowboys Concussion
Jon Beason Giants Sprained knee
Bennett Jackson Giants Torn ACL
Marquess Wilson Bears Hamstring Injury
Ben Ijalana Jets Sprained MCL
Roddy White Falcons Minor right elbow surgery
Vance McDonald 49ers Ankle injury

Let’s hope that no other players get seriously injured during the remaining two weeks of the preseason, as it would be a shame for them to miss out on football games that actually mattered. Fantasy sports fans shouldn’t be the only ones upset about these injuries, and hopefully the NFL will lower the amount of preseason games in the future.

Eli Manning Trying To Be Top Paid Football Player https://football.us/nfl/eli-manning-trying-to-be-top-paid-football-player/ https://football.us/nfl/eli-manning-trying-to-be-top-paid-football-player/#respond Tue, 18 Aug 2015 21:57:16 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=578 Manning Football Salary

With the start of the 2015 football season, this means that Eli Manning, New York Giants star quarterback, is on his last contracted year and is already looking to get a new contract in the works. However, he is actually trying to be the highest paid player in the NFL.

Currently, the highest paid QB is Aaron Rodgers, earning $22 million each year; Manning is currently at $17 million. It would be a huge jump to try and surpass Rodgers, and on top of it all, the Giants don’t seem to be close to what he is asking for.

The Top 5 contracts can shine some more light on how far fetched Manning request is:

VALUE REMAINING GUARANTEED SUM YEARLY AVERAGE
Cam Newton: $118.5M Philip Rivers: $65M Aaron Rodgers: $22M
Jay Cutler: $109.2M Russell Wilson: $61.5M Russell Wilson: $21.9M
Colin Kaepernick: $106M Colin Kaepernick: $61M Ben Roethlisberger: $21.85M
Ben Roethlisberger: $99M Cam Newton: $60M Philip Rivers: $20.82M
Philip Rivers: $99M Tony Romo: $55M Cam Newton: $20.76M

Calculating a quarterback’s worth is hard, and even harder than before, with the possibility of Manning getting around $25 million yearly salary if the Giants were to use the exclusive franchise tag on him for next season.

Eli Manning has already become a hero for the Giants team and fans, so there is a slight possibility that he could end up getting that high contract to become the most paid QB in football.

Football Players Retiring In 2015 https://football.us/football-news/football-players-retiring-in-2015/ https://football.us/football-news/football-players-retiring-in-2015/#respond Thu, 23 Jul 2015 22:01:14 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=492 Football players retiring

With any job there comes a time when their employees, or in this case football players, retire. The NFL has a generally low age for retiring players, unless of course you are a husky looking quarterback that always comes back. This is why some fans are sad to see some of their favorite players walk off the field for good.

Here are ten players that are retiring this year:

Player POS Team Notable Stats
Ed Reed S Ravens 643 Tackles

64 Interceptions

Troy Polamalu S Steelers 770 Tackles

32 Interceptions

Kamerion Wimbley OLB Titans 442 Tackles

53.5 Sacks

Patrick Willis ILB 49ers 950 Tackles

20.5 Sacks

Justin Smith DE 49ers 880 Tackles

87 Sacks

Ryan Clark FS Steelers/Redskins 644 Tackles

16 Interceptions

Maurice Jones-Drew RB Jaguars/Raiders 8,167 Yards

68 Touchdowns

Nick Hardwick C Chargers 136 Games Played
Michael Roos T Titans 148 Games Played
John Carlson TE Vikings/Cardinals 2,256 Yards

15 Touchdowns

It will be sad to see these, and many other of the players retiring this year, go. Many were quite amazing at their position, which is what made watching the football games so much better. Watching that great tackle or sack, or even those one-handed catches. Let’s hope the newer generation players can bring the same level of tenacity.

Sad Day In Football As JaJuan Dawson Body Is Recovered From Lake https://football.us/football/sad-day-in-football-as-jajuan-dawson-body-is-recovered-from-lake/ https://football.us/football/sad-day-in-football-as-jajuan-dawson-body-is-recovered-from-lake/#respond Tue, 14 Jul 2015 21:25:35 +0000 http://www.football.us/?p=442 Football tragedy

It is a tragic day as a fellow football player has lost his life earlier than anyone would have expected. Ex-NFL receiver JaJuan Dawson’s body was found late last night, around 11:35 pm, in Lake Levon in Texas. Dawson was reported missing on Sunday when he fell into a lake.

He was on the lake with a few of his family members as they enjoyed the day, but he fell into the lake and never resurfaced; he was not wearing a life jacket and no one knows if he knew how to swim. As most of you may be thinking, this incident did not involve alcohol, so we can put that to rest.

Dawson, who was picked in the third round of the 2000 Draft by the Cleveland Browns, and then went on to play for the Houston Texans in 2002, which would mark his last year of playing professional football. His career was short, but sweet, and never deserved to leave this earth so early.

We wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the grieving family.
